GET ON BOARD!!!
here are many strong practitioners working in the adult and
family literacy field who would benefit from the national and
provincial exposure at the Board level. We know they are also very
busy people. What do Board members do for LPM and you?
The LPM Board recently reviewed the role descriptions as follows:
President:
 |
Acts as Chair of all meetings of LPM and Board |
 |
Acts as official signing officer for LPM |
 |
Acts as an official spokesperson and representative of LPM |
 |
Takes a leadership role with the Board of Directors and ensures
that the Board establishes and follows LPM's mission, goals and
policies |
 |
Works collaboratively with the Executive Director to ensure the
activities are carried out in accordance with LPM's goals and
objectives |
 |
Takes the position of Past President after completing the two
year term of President |
Vice President:
 |
Acts as a consultant/advisory to the President with her/his
responsibilities and takes over these responsibilities in case of
President's absence |
 |
Serves as Chair of the Personnel Committee |
 |
Coordinates an annual review of Board policies and procedures
and by-laws, except for the financial area |
Secretary:
 |
Keeps lists of officers, Board members, committees and General
Membership in cooperation with the office records |
 |
Brings official minutes book to meetings |
 |
Keeps records of Board meetings and attendance |
 |
Keeps accurate, signed minutes of meetings and any corrections
or amendments |
 |
Keeps copies of committee meetings and Board meetings and
teleconference notes |
 |
Distributes copies of minutes to Board Members promptly after
meetings |
 |
Signs official documents of the organization as required |
 |
In absence of the President and Vice-President, chairs Board
meetings until election of an alternate Chair |
 |
Advisor to newsletter |
 |
Orients the new secretary |
Treasurer:
 |
Presents financial reports to the Board |
 |
Oversees/monitors preparation and presentation of financial
records ensuring accounting principles and LPM policies are adhered
to. |

Oversees year-end audited financial statement for AGM
distribution |
 |
Acts as a signing officer for cheques and other financial
documents |
 |
Chairs the finance and grants committee |
 |
Orients new Treasurer |
 |
Develops/renews financial and fundraising policies and
procedures |
Members at Large:
 |
Act as ambassadors of LPM in the public arena and to the
membership |
 |
Create new connections and opportunities for partnership
whenever possible |
 |
Help recruit new Board members |
 |
Serve on one Board committee |
Past President:
