News from the North
By Lynne McCorkill, Coordinator

This is my first report as Northern Network Coordinator. Board President, Margaret de Kock, of Flin Flon, and myself are in constant contact. Due to distances and availability, she is my mainstay. We jointly discuss and plan appropriate programs for the north and welcome your ideas. Time was spent setting up and organizing an office from my home, where I can be reached at (204) 623-5985 or 623-6063. I can also be reached by email at lynncco@cancom.net An email workshop for instructors had been planned through KCC in Flin Flon, but extremely high winds has caused the satellite dishes to be damaged and the system became inaccessible for a period of time. However, Joan Church of Swan River offered her facilities and an intense two days were spent learning about the program. Many thanks, Joan!

Unfortunately, my father passed away in early November, causing me to drop everything and attend to affairs in Vancouver. This threw my scheduling out somewhat, but I did manage to return in time for the annual LPM conference. This has to be one of the best conferences I have attended. Both training sessions had invaluable information and the entertainment was spectacular. Hopefully, Cheryl has recovered from her encounter with the Chinese Dragon! Anyone who was unable to attend certainly missed some wonderful performances. A big thank you to Marg Rose and staff for a job well done.

December 4, programming was scheduled for Flin Flon and The Pas. We have always believed that in order to learn, you must feel good about yourself, so with that in mind, Margaret Church of Flin Flon Friendship Centre did a presentation on self-esteem, using the wheel of life as the focus point. The learners had a positive response to Margaret and were glad to hear that we can all suffer setbacks and that we do not need to feel that we are alone. There are steps to be taken to help ourselves to grow and improve. After discussions, a delicious potluck lunch was served, followed by an afternoon of Christmas crafting.
