Learners Publish on the Internet

On February 15, 1997 learners at the Pembina Valley Learning Centre Winkler gathered around the computer and enthusiastically awaited the publishing moment. At 10:30 a.m. stories written by Frank Froese, Tina Froese, Helen Penner and Kathy Teichroeb were launched on the National Adult Literacy Database "Story of the Week" features adult learners' writings in an effort to recognize their efforts and to inspire those who read them to submit their own writings to NALD.

The writings from the PVLC learners arose out of a discussion after reading a story about how the habits of wild geese might apply in positive ways to their lives. The learners then did research and the writings was to pick out specific traits of their bird and show how we might learn from them.

It was a celebration for everyone at PVLC. These learners are the first from PVLC to have published on the Internet. Their writings continue to appear on NALD under "Previous Stories of the Week." Those wishing to read them can find them on NALD's Web Page: http://www.nald.ca
