Literacy and Homelessness

Is there homelessness in your community?
Does your literacy program work with learners who are homeless?
Do you do outreach to emergency shelters or "soup kitchens" in your community?
Do people who are transient spend time reading in the local library?
Are you concerned and interested, but not sure what approaches might work?

The Literacy and Homelessness Project, at Toronto's St. Christopher House Adult
Literacy Program
, is doing a survey of programs across Canada that are doing or
would like to do literacy and homelessness work. The Project is also conferencing
with five partners in Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax, to talk
about the work that we are doing and the challenges that we face.

I would love to hear from you if:

  • your program is doing this work
  • your program would like to do this work
  • you know of programs that are
