The Margaret Laurence Award for Excellence

Almost 500 people across the province volunteer as tutors in more than eighty literacy programs that give clients individual attention. Their efforts have gone largely unacknowledged until now. In recognition of dedication, the Margaret Laurence Award for Excellence will be given to two volunteers -1 urban and 1 rural representative. Margaret Laurence is one of Manitoba's most widely read authors. Her family has permitted the creation of a literacy award in her name.

The inaugural presentation will take place at the Margaret Laurence House in Neepawa on International Literacy Day, September 8, 1996 at 2 p.m.

Nominees should be Volunteer Literacy Tutors who have demonstrated caring, commitment. and ability in assisting adults to read.

Practitioners can submit nominations on the form included, stating the VLT's contribution to their program. Testimonials from other practitioners or learners would help the nomination committee in its deliberations. All nominees will be acknowledged.
