Wendy’s Message

Hello,

I wish to say how pleased I am to have joined Literacy Partners of Manitoba as the Executive Director.

I look forward in the coming months to meeting our many members, colleagues and supporters to Literacy Partners of Manitoba.

We will have many events and activities to celebrate Literacy in 2010. The first of these will be Family Literacy Day. Family Literacy Day has always been held on January 27. Watch for our February ebulletin, when we share with you some of the activities that took place on Family Literacy day.

I hope that on Family Literacy day you will have enjoyed spending time with your family by reading together, trying a new recipe and cooking together – singing a song together or enjoying a family game night.

Have fun!

Wendy

The Office of Literacy and Essential Skills (OLES) is focused on improving the literacy and essential skills of adult Canadians. We provide expertise, funding for innovative and dynamic projects and a wide range of learning tools and other resources. We work through the following activities:

Programming: grants and contributions;

Building knowledge and expertise: research, analysis and results;

Tools: development, adaptation and dissemination; and

Partnerships: with other government departments, provincial and territorial governments, and non-profit organizations.

Through these activities, OLES aims to help Canadians have the skills they need to get a job, stay in the job market and contribute to their communities and families.

Plain Language training at LPM

We can help you reach a wider audience?

Literacy Partners of Manitoba offers:

Assessments of brochures, web pages and letters. Is your text readable by your target audience? If your clients aren’t getting your message, maybe it’s how you are wording your message.

Suggestions to improve readability to suit particular audiences. Not everyone reads at a grade 12 level, what changes can widen the appeal of your text?

Re-writes, structural and copy editing. We’ll edit your documents to remove those embarrassing errors that make you look bad. And, we’ll write in a style appropriate for your audience and purpose.

Training sessions in Plain Language writing. We will teach you how to prepare well laid out documents worded so that people really understand in practical, hands-on, congenial workshops.

Visit mb.literacy.ca for more information on our Plain Language Services.
