LPM awards four honorary life memberships
At the AGM on November 21, honorary life memberships were awarded to four LPM members.
Susan
Hamilton has volunteered in the resource centre for eight years. Not
only does she package materials and send out reminder notices, she adds
to the ambience of our office with her cheerful disposition and wry
wit. Susan volunteers in other capacities as well, and is one of the
stalwarts behind the Veterans' radio station.
Margaret
Chambers has been a leading literacy light in the Interlake for many
years, serving for the last 15 as the Exective Director of the
Interlake Adult Learning Association. She presently sits on LPM's
Literacy Strategy Steering Committee and will assist municipal staff in
Manitoba through her appointment to the Canadian Municipalities
Association's Literacy Initiative.
Dr.
Marilyn Day has been working in the literacy field for more than 20
years as both an educator and researcher. She has served as an
executive member of our Board for the past eight years, and recently
returned as president to steer the organization though challenging
times. She has moved to Victoria to enjoy a longer gardening season.
Marg
Rose, former executive director of LPM from 1986-2004, led the
organization from its humble beginnings in a church basement to its
being recognized as a respected provincial organization. Marg has
become an expert in the field of health literacy, the subject of her
master's thesis, and recently participated in a national health
literacy conference in Quebec City.
We thank our new life members for their long and loyal service to literacy and LPM.
