Manitoba Politicians support I Love to Read Month

MLA Gordon Mackintosh reads to children at Lord Nelson School "The better you read the further ahead you will be in life." This was the message for students from cabinet ministers Gord Mackintosh (seen at left at Lord Nelson School) and Peter Bjornson during I Love to Read Month. These ministers were hard to find at their offices this month as in total they visited more than 20 schools.

Other MLAs were out reading as well, along with Lieutenant Governor John Harvard, all reaffirming their commitment to the power of literacy.

Bookmates moves to new digs

Bookmates has moved to the 3rd floor of 219 Provencher Boulevard. In celebration, they invite their friends and supporters to an Open House on March 22, 3:00 - 6:00 p.m. Click here for more details.

The 2006 Census Adult Basic Education/Literacy Kit is now available

Tuesday, May 16, 2006, is Census Day in Canada. On that day, more than 32.5 million people will "count themselves in" as part of the 2006 Census. Adult literacy instructors may find the 2006 Census Adult Basic Education/Literacy Kit to be a useful classroom resource. The kit is available free-of-charge at www.census2006.ca.

LPM Board fills vacant positions

The Board is pleased to announce that Don Fournier, literacy student; Herman Hansen, Manager, Employee Training, Boeing Technology, Winnipeg Division; and Bob Thompson, Director of Stevenson Britannia Literacy Foundation, have been appointed to fill vacant positions. LPM receives charitable donation

Heather Hartry, Marilyn Day and Patricia FerrisLPM was thrilled to be named one of the non-profit organizations to receive a significant cash donation from the Manitoba Government All Charities Campaign.  In the photo at left, Heather Hartry (left), Manitoba 4 Youth, a division of Education, Citizenship and Youth, and Patricia Ferris (right), Advanced Eduation and Training, are presenting LPM President, Marilyn Day, with their donation.  The All Charities Campaign hosted a Salsa Social, conducted a raffle and sold teddy bears to raise these funds.  A big THANK YOU from Literacy Partners to all the hard working generous volunteers!
