Justice Minister vows to review literacy programs for jails

Lorri Apps and Rob Sarginson of LPM met with Minister of Justice, Gord Mackintosh, on April 22. He pledged to talk to his officials about literacy upgrading in the prison system,especially at the remand centre.He was also interested in our proposal for a pan-Manitoba strategy on Literacy improvement.

Rob and Lorri also spoke about their advocacy for early childhood educational interventions (such as the HIPPY project) in inner city neighbourhoods.

As they outlined the Plain Language Project funded by the Winnipeg Foundation, the Minister pointed out his personal advocacy for Plain Language and pointed out a stack of pamphlets on Crime Prevention all in simplified wording.
