What a great month for literacy!
At the Breakfast of Champions, Premier Gary Doer presents the award to Faye Belhumeur. See below. Premier presents literacy award at Breakfast of ChampionsPremier Gary Doer has presented the first Council of the Federation Literacy Award to Faye Belhumeur of Swan River. She received the award on September 9 at a Breakfast of Champions hosted by LPM and the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce. The premier praised the courage of adult learners like Faye who overcome obstacles to get their education later in life. In an eloquent speech, Faye thanked Carole Didyk and her staff at the Swan River Adult Education Centre for their support. Click here for the full story. Volunteers needed for Raise-a-Reader Day on September 29
Following the event, a celebratory lunch (not a breakfast, this year) will be held at the Delta Hotel. As part of their publicity for Raise-a-Reader, CanWest Global invited adult learner and LPM Board member Raymond Roy to be part of an commercial for this event. Minister Diane McGifford proclaims International Literacy Day During the event, Minister McGifford signed the official proclamation of International Literacy Day and Adult Learners' Week.
